tiptoeing through the tulips...in "discovery ridge"
a new mofo...
i'm knackered today. 3 big bike rides in 3 consecutive days, culminating in a monster ride through west calgary yesterday with the bikeclub. details can be found here.
i clocked 72 clicks. that's pretty far for an early season ride. we even conquered a "new" mofo hill. that being the access road from wildwood down to edworthy park. i'd rank it as a moderate gradient but the shear length of it means an upgrade to mofo status.
soapydave at the top of the edworthy mofo... dave, crank that sucka...!!!! more photos at www.thinsoapy.com/bikeclub
long day though. 1030 to 2100h. thank god we take alot of breaks... felt ok, after a couple of cokes and german weenies at dave and gina's...
funny thing happened on the way to the safeway...
unfortunately, i lost my riding gloves yesterday. dillan and i stopped by the spot where i thought i lost them to have a look. nodda. zip.
dave and gina had gone ahead to safeway to buy dinner. we arrived too late to meet them. they had boogied it outta there.
we were talking about how kelsey, the qtlibrarian, never comes out biking with us... she's always talking about how she could kick our arses with her road bike...
waiting outside safeway, a metallic greenish bmw drives by and a girl in the passenger seat waves at us (well, i thought it was meant for dillan).
i turned to him and said, "did you see that? that girl just waved at you... you lucky dog. who was that?"
we gave up on dave and gina and proceeded to 14th St. and 90th Ave.
our conversation went back to the qtlibrarian. "we're losers. that's why she doesn't come out..."
dillan: "no, i'm the loser here..."
bubba: "no, i'm the loser..."
so on and so forth... a typical bubba/dillan dialogue.
we were waiting at the light to cross 14th. i spotted the same beemer.
bubba: "she's there again..."
bubba: "crank your head to the left and she'll wave at you..."
the light turned green and the beemer sped by. the girl waved. we waved back. it was the qtlibrarian!!!! ha!
note to qt: did you streak your hair? who was that guy? are we losers? you looked hot in that beemer...
over the weenie roast dave and gina came up with a brilliant idea. calgary has an outstanding bike path system, but if you wanted to commute by bike, this city sucks. they suggested that one of the elbow drive lanes either way be converted to a bike/bus/multi-passenger car lane. brilliant idea...
i don't think "pave" bronconnier would be amenable to the idea though. the guy's a total suburbanite. why buy a couple of buckets of paint for a bike lane, when you can build a $100 million interchange?
i think we should bombard "pave" with correspondence re: more bike lanes on the roads!!!! bikes rule... c'mon lets exercise our people power!!!

just trying to protect my 9 dullah investment and/or save 3 hrs. of my short and wonderful life...
we go way back. his bday was on may the 11th, 3 days after my own. that's how i remember it. i managed to fire off an bday email (how intimate, eh?) this year. here's the text:
>To: tom phillips
>Subject: happy bday!!!!!!!!!!
>Date: Wed, 11 May 2005 10:56:27 -0600
>if you're still alive, happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!,
Hey Bubba, Thanks alot! I am still alive but unable to move from my bed in the extended care facility due to the IV drip, oxygen tent, and monitoring of my many septugenarian medications that need to be constantly monitored by trained paliative care staff.
Thanks for thinking of me. How are you? What are you doing? When the hell is your bday? It's sometime around now isn't it?
Let me know how you're doing.
hey, if you have unsuspecting friends who are having birthdays, i'd be glad to send them a similarly worded email. it's the least i can do...
have a nice day,
